What is your fee structure? — Unlike law firms, we do not charge our clients on an hourly fee basis. In patent enforcement matters, we represent clients strictly on a contingency fee basis. The fee structure is based on several factors, most notably, size and complexity of the case.

Should I disclose my invention? – Disclosures to friends and family are usually not problematic with respect to bar dates because they are not public and they are done under an expectation of confidentiality.  On the other hand, the less disclosure the better, at least until a patent application is filed on the invention.  It is not at all uncommon that someone will accidentally either reveal something that was told to them in confidence or will say something that somehow triggers a third person to invent the technology themselves.

The best protection, and to some extent the only reliable protection, is to get your patent application on file by filing at least a provisional application.

How long will it take for you to complete your analysis of my patent? — This depends in part on the amount and the quality of information we receive from the inventor or the patent owner. The preliminary evaluation usually takes a week.

What is this evaluation process going to cost me? — Nothing. All costs for analysis and evaluation are borne by us.

How much does it cost me if I decide to go with you?  — From search to issuance a patent typically costs Rs. 10,000 – Rs.15,000.  Some firms charge Rs. 30,000 – Rs. 60,000 to just file a patent, but that doesn’t mean they do a better job.  The reason is that such patents very expensive patents tend to focus on length rather than quality.  At the other extreme it is terribly difficult to search and write a decent patent for less than about six or seven thousand.  Foreign patents typically run about Rs. 15,000 – Rs. 50,000 to secure, per country. The fees depend on the complexity of the invention and it is always better to discuss in person.
